Hey, guys. This is Stephen, and in this section of the training I'm going to talk about internal linking, so I'm going to talk about internal linking on not only your money sites, but, also, this content is applicable if you are using private blog networks. Primarily I'm going to be speaking for money sites, but, remember, that is strategy can actually be applied just as well to your network sites.

What am I talking about when I talk about internal linking? Well, what I'm talking about is the fact that internal links, meaning links that are on your site, your money site, count just the same way that external links do, as far as Google is concerned. We know that when another site links to you that you get some sort of credit for it, but you, also, get credit when your site internally links properly.

There are different ways that you could utilize this technique, but what I'm going to show you is the basic level, and one thing, guys, I want to show you this, but I don't want you to go crazy with this. I don't want you to go and do eight million of these internal links today or anything. As usual, be cautious. The best way to do this technique is once you've gone through the whole training, you feel like you understand it, I would go back to some of your sites, and I would make just a couple of changes. Maybe make a couple of changes based on what I'm about you to train you. Let it sit for a couple of weeks. Make sure that there's no negative marks that come from it, and then if everything is great, move forward.

Remember, when we are doing internal linking and we use anchor text, this counts toward our on page optimization, so using too much anchor text rich internal linking can absolutely get your site a panda penalty, and can absolutely move you in the opposite direction of where you want to be, so keep that in mind.

A quick explanation. I'm here on Wikipedia, which is the best example that I could think of for internal linking, and most of you guys, I'm sure, are aware of what Wikipedia is, and I'm sure you've been to it many, many times. I've pulled up the search engine optimization page, just to use as an example. As you look here, we're on the search engine optimization page, and all of these things that you see highlighted are internal links to other pages on Google. You see these relative terms. All of these are links. This is what I'm talking about, and this is one of the reasons why Wikipedia ranks so highly in Google, it's these internal links.

You may have analyzed a Wikipedia page before, and seen that it had very little as far as the metrics that we're normally looking for, and may have a very low trust flow, or page authority, for example, but it still may be ranking very highly. Here's the answer. Some small percent, of course, is due to the overall domain authority of Wikipedia, but, also, a lot of that has to do with just internal linking.

Your internal linking actually can be very, very powerful, and it absolutely is something that you can see in the search. If this is done properly, the internal links actually can be many times more powerful than external links. Remember, the pages that these links are coming from, the power of those pages is very important, and so we want to do this strategically.

There's lots of ways to do things. There's lots of ways to do this, of course, but I'm going to show you an easy way that's, also, free, that I think would make it fast for you guys. If we're going to do internal linking, then the first thing we need to do is we need to know the power of the individual pages that are on our site. There's lots of ways you can do this. You can access MOSS or you can access majestic. Both of them have a feature, I believe you're going to click on pages or top pages, something like that, and it's going to give you what MOSS and majestic believe are the most powerful pages on your site, and you certainly can do that, and that's certainly valid. Of course, SERP is going to have that as well.

A quicker way to do this, and what I train my VAs to do is to use a free program called Netpeak Spider. If you just Google that, Netpeak Spider, you'll find the site, and you do have to register if you want to get updates, and I suggest you do it. There is a "cost," there is an opt in, but once you've done it, you're going to download it. It's going to ask you for your license key, and you're going to input it on the start screen. Once you get there, then you're going to get a screen that looks like this. There are lots of uses for this particular piece of software, any spidering software. I will probably be showing you this again in another module.

For this module, what I'm going to show you to do is very simple. If you are going to be using this on a small site with only a few pages, then you can just put your URL in and go, but if you're going to be doing it on a large site with lots of pages, then you're going to want to come up here to setting. You're going to want to come across to proxy, and go ahead and add your good proxies, because otherwise there's a good chance you're going to get blocked. For this demonstration, I'm only going to do a very limited scrape.

On here, I typed in CNN.com, which is a cable news network. All of you should be familiar with that. I'm going to leave all these default settings the same. I'm simply going to click the little play button, and I'm going to let it run. Let's see. It's already done over a hundred URLs, so I'm going to go ahead and hit stop. When you're doing this on your site, you are going to let it run until it finds all the pages, but, again, for brevity in this training, I'm just going to show you this.

First of all, what you have is a window, and it lists all of the URLs. It has their chronicles. It has all kinds of good information, and, again, we are going to go over all this stuff in a different training, but what I want you to see here is there's a button right here called calculate PR, and this software is actually pretty old. I think I've been using this for four years now probably, if I had to guess. What it's doing is it's using an internal formula, excuse me ... Sorry, guys, I had to wash my throat there. It's using its own internal formula basically to calculate the value, and it's based on mac links. I found that when I compare the results of this to MOSS and majestic, they're very similar. In my humble opinion, this is just as good as using either of the other, but feel free to use the one that you prefer.

I'm going to hit calculate PR, and, again, I'm just going to leave these default settings, and I'm going to click okay. What's going to happen is I'm now going to scroll up here, and you'll see PR. Now, in this, the higher number after the decimal point is going to be the more higher authority page, so you see the home page, CNN.com, has what it's calling a PR of .32, so that means that .32 is more than likely I can sort it. I just did, but, as you would expect, the home page has the highest authority, but you'll see here now these pages in order of power.

The second most powerful page, according to this, it looks like it's going to be an internal page. It's this page, CNN.com/special/US/GreatAmericanStories, so this is the second most powerful page on here. What I want to do is I want to pick a handful of these by power, and then I am going to go in, and I am going to link back to whatever page I want to rank from these pages that have power. With the anchor text, I want to rank that page four. I hope that's making sense.

Now I have my list. Let's say these are the top four pages, so what I would then do is I would go back to my site. I would log in, and I would leave an internal key word rich anchor text link from each of these pages, going to the page that I want to rank. What that's going to look like is going to be this. I've logged into my handy dandy test site that I use all the time. You guys are familiar with this.

Let's just say that this page is one of the powerful pages. Let's say this is one of the powerful pages that I want ... And let's say this is the page I want to rank. I'm going to go to this page. Again, let me say this is the page for the post that I want to rank. What I'm going to do ... Sorry. I'm going to go in here, and I'm going to copy the URL of this page. Again, the one that I want to rank, and I can go back. If you want to make this easier, if you're going to do several, you may want to past this into a text file or something. Again, let's say that I want to rank this page, utilize these informative tips and succeed in MLM for the key word MLM. Let's say that that's what I want to rank it for, and let's say this page is one of the powerful pages that I found.

I'm then going to go to this page, and wow, look right there. The very first word is multi-level marketing. If that were what I were trying to do, then I can simply highlight this. Link, and then put in the link that I copied to the page I want to rank, and, again, I said MLM earlier, so if I want, I can change this to MLM, so, remember, linked text here is your anchor text. I'm going to click add link, and I'm going to click update.

Now when I go to this post, and I look, there is my new link, and when I click on it ... It looks like I made an error with my ... Of course, I'm doing this live, so it's going to be fighting me here. Let me go back. Let me go back. This is the one that I want, so my bad. It was my permalinks. Again, I can do a short link here, and copy this, or I can just plain old go to few posts, and click this here, and copy, and, again, then we're going to go back.

I think all you guys understand how to internally link, so I'm not going to ... If this is having a problem because of permalinks, I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on it, but let me try this again real quick just to make sure. Let's try it again. Again, I think this is a permlink issue, because I don't have them set, because of a different tool, so let me go here and look. If this doesn't work though, guys, if you do it live on your deals, it's going to work, so this should go to that page. Yeah. There we go. Now I have that page linking to this, and then I would simply repeat the process.

Again, what we want to do, we want to be very frugal with this. We don't want to go crazy. We don't want to go put a million key word rich anchor text links, but if you will sprinkle a few of these throughout, then it can absolutely help you rank. This is one of those techniques and strategies that is white hat, as long as you don't over optimize. It's very safe, and it actually, honestly, can be very, very powerful. Again, use this with care. Don't go make a million of them.

If you have a normal size local client site, then you're pretty much going to do what I just showed you, but let's say that you have a huge site. Let's say you have a site with thousands or tens of thousands of pages. Then what you can do is go in here, and type in internal links, or internal linking, internal link whatever. Let's see. You're going to find a bunch of different programs that will do this for you. I think this one is probably ... Let me look at this one. I think this is one that's pretty good. Hold on one second. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that this is ... I'm not going to show you how to use the individual plug ins. This is another good one. I know I've used this one before. Let's see. You usually link your URL. This one is a good one, too.

Just test a few of them, but basically what they're going to do is they're going to allow you to go in, and they're going to have usually a table looking thing, and you're going to put in a key word, and so let's say every time on your site the word multi-level marketing appears, then that will be linked back to the specific page you want to link for multi-level marketing. I hope that that's making sense for you. Let me look at this one real quick, since I'm on it. Let me just look at this one real quick. I'm doing SCO auto links. Let me activate it, and give me one sec, because this is one of the ones I think that I've used fairly recently.

I'm going to go to settings, and then SCO auto links. Yes. Here's what you're going to do. In this one, you're going to put in key words here, and when you put in key words here, then anywhere on the site, so anytime that any of key words you put in here are linked, it's going to link it to specific places. This one is more of a generic site wide. If you go through here, you can find ones that are going to be specific ones. This is probably not one that you're probably want to use. This one, what it's going to do is it's going to go through and it's really for targeting an individual page with a whole bunch of links.

You could use this. Let's say that your home page is the only page that you're ranking. If you only are targeting the home page, you could go in, and you could put in all of your key words here, and then whenever those key words appear on your site, it will always link back to the home page with whatever anchor text from the key words here. That's what this one does.

There's other ones that are, also, going to allow you to do it on a case by case basis. Again, if you have a huge site, you probably want to do a little bit of investigation and find a decent plug in. Let me look one more real quick. Let me see. Let me see. Let me look at this one real quick. Let me just look at that, and see if this is the one that does the individual.

I'd just like to show you this if I can real quick, and, if not, I can come back and edit. I click on internal linking here. This is more like what you guys are going to want to use. For this one, you're going to put word here. Let's say the word was MLM, and the link to be replaced on the word we'll say dot home. In the other one, what we're going to place ... Here, let's do this. That's the one I had before, and then when I click on add internal link here, now this one's in there, so now what it's going to do is every time it sees the word MLM, it's going to link back to this page.

Now let me go back to the site real quick. What you can do, again, with this one is you can target individual pages for individual key words. Let me go through here and see if I see MLM on here anywhere, so I can show you really, really quick, and, if not, then you guys will just have to trust me. Let's see. Let me go through. There's an MLM. It didn't do it, so maybe there's another step here.

I'm sorry, guys. When I did it, I choose to only do it once. That means that one place on the site ... I'm sorry, guys. See where it says density, one. I'm going to go ahead and put this up here. Let's put this at thirty. Sorry, guys. I'm going to delete the one that says one. I apologize. Now, let's go back to the site, and let's see if we can find good old MLM. Let me look and see if I can find one. Go to advertising agency here. Well, let's see. It looks like I think something in my permalinks is broken.

I use this for testing, guys, so there's a thousand plug ins on here, so one of them just killed this. I promise you, what will happen is that if you use this on a regular blog, it's going to do basically what I just said. It's going to go through, and it's going to replace that word, however many times. What it's going to do every time that it found the word MLM, it's going to replace it with a link to that page up to the density that I choose, which was thirty times.

Again, guys, sorry about that. If I were better, I would go back and edit this so you wouldn't watch me fumbling, but, honestly, I have so much content to add to the course that I'd rather spend my time, and you would probably prefer me spending my time on adding new content, and not editing videos.

Thanks for bearing with me. Again, as a quick recap, in this video we talked about internal linking. We talked about how it can be very powerful for helping you rank specific pages for specific key words, and, also, that when we use this strategy, we want to use it very carefully in the beginning. We want to make sure that we only change a few, and then we let it sit for a few weeks and see what happens. If it's a money site, you can, also, do a fetches Google bot from your Google webmaster tools, so it would be crawled immediately. When you do that, then you're going to see the impact of that internal linking fairly fast. You'll see it in a couple of days, as opposed to a couple of weeks.

Again, we want to be cautious with the internal linking. We don't want to be crazy. When we're doing these internal links, remember, we want to use LSI key words as well, not just exactly anchor, so if we're trying to rank a page for Dallas Roofing, then we want to use a bunch of different variations of that internally, not just Dallas Roofing fifty times. Panda penalty is very easy to get if you do something dumb like that. Especially if you're going to use one of these plug ins that I just showed, so so with care.

All right, guys, that is it. I would love to hear from you guys in the group. If a handful of you will go ahead and implement this on your money sites, I can almost promise you that you are going to see a small bump, sometimes a large bump, in your rankings from just doing this one thing. Once you guys do it, if you want to throw that into the group, so others can see, that would be awesome, and, as always, guys, thank you for being members, and I'll see you in the next training.
