Hey guys, this is SEO Floyd. In this video we are going to talk about some things that you can do to keep your customers. Now, this is going to be the first video so this video is going to be targeted toward the initial onboarding period. The first month to say 2 months. There's a couple of things that I want to go over here with you. A couple of techniques that we use for this. There will be more obviously in later training. Today's video I want to talk about 3 things.

The first thing that I want to talk about is ranking long tail keywords. For those of you who might not be familiar with that term, a long tail keyword is simply when we have our "money term or trophy term" but it's in a much longer version. For example, if our trophy term were frisco-roofing and that were the main term that we were trying to get, then a long tail variation of that may be best-roofer-in-frisco, or it may be roofer-in-frisco-tx. Now, these long tail keywords are not going to have the same volume in search and value as the trophy keyword, but they are also much easier to get.

In the initial stages with our client we want to show them some proof that things are working that we are accomplishing things that things are getting done. We want to show them that we are working for their money. By ranking some of these long tail keywords this is a great way to start. There's a couple of ways that you can do this. The first thing that I like to do is I like to see what they're already ranking for long tail wise or what they're on the verge of ranking for long tail wise. Again, there's multiple techniques that you can use to do this but for this demonstration I'm going to go ahead and show you, now again, this is one of my SEO sites, please don't bother analyzing it or expanding it or whatever it won't make any difference, I don't really use it anyway.

We login to webmaster tools and under the search traffic I'm going to click on search queries. This is going to show me a bunch of words, right, that I'm sort of ranking for. This said that were 166 keywords currently and so over here where it says show I'm going to go ahead and show 500, so I'll see all 166. Then I'm going to click here to sort them by average position.

Now, the first thing I want you to know is this does not mean Google SERP position. This does not mean this says Frisco SEO and average position is 2. Actually if you go and do Frisco SEO or SEO Frisco I think I am number 2, but what I want you to be crystal clear with is that these numbers don't match the SERPS necessarily. However, their relative position to their position in the SERPS do match fairly nicely. Right now, everything, all of these words especially the ones that we see less than 10 or 20.

If we go down here we've got a whole bunch of long tail variations that Google already thinks this site is relative for and it's already somewhat ranking for them. For example, let's see here, 1 of the ones that thinks we're at number 2 would be Frisco Logo SEO. Let me just search for that real quick and let's see what pulls up here and let me not localize or personalize my results, so we'll get a little more accurate. There it's number 3. Number 3 for the term Frisco Logo SEO. That's already a first page ranking, right. This is something that you want to first collect all of the ones that you're on the first page for. Then you want to go ahead and also find the ones you're on second page for and third page for and put these out into like a spreadsheet.

The ones that you're already ranking for these can be immediate proof to your client, let's say in your first month report you're going to return a number of things to them and one of the things you can return is a report that says "Hey look, we're already ranked on page 1 for these terms." Now again, is there a ton of value in traffic to frisco local SEO, nope there's not, but your client really doesn't understand how all this works, and so they're are going to see that they're ranking on page 1 for something and that you did is what they're going to see. That's what they need to see.

Now, as your work kicks in of course we are going to be kicking butt for them and we're going to be ranking them for things that have traffic and value. Remember this is not something that in and of itself really has a ton of value. This is more of a proof so your clients get some confidence that you can do what you say you can do in the initial periods. Now once your ranking these things won't be necessary because you'll be ranking your trophy keywords, your medium value keywords and they will be able to see their return on investment, so these won't matter much anymore. In the beginning this is very important.

There are a ton of ways that you can do this. I'm going to show you just a couple of ways, you can also Google Analytics for this. I am logged into Google Webmaster tools, Google Analytics will also have information like this, sometimes more and sometimes different. For brevity and ease of use I decided to show you webmaster tools. What I would do for this, down here it says "download chart data," you can simply download it. It's going to give you the option to download it into a CSV.

I would go ahead and once you have all of those then I would go ahead and throw them into your bulk rank checker. There are various ones that are available that you can you for free or you can use a lot of the trial ones for free. One that I like to do personally because it's dirt cheap is the Rank Tracker module in ScapeBox. What you're going to get ... It's 20 bucks and what will happen is you are going to throw ... You buy ScrapeBox for $57.00, I think. There's a discount coupon in our Facebook members area, for $57.00 and then the Rank Tracker is a $20.00 upgrade.

What I've done is I've gone ahead and thrown a bunch of these keywords into here. Here obviously there's not a whole bunch that are ranking high because this is my site I just keep track of for fun, it's not really a client site. As an example, here's a client site, and you'll see all the number 1s and then you'll see, number 1, number 1, number 2, number 2, right, all these front pages. That's what it's going to look like when you do that. Step 1, come into your webmaster tools, go to search traffic, search queries. Then you want to expand it to show all the rows that will. Then you want to sort by average position, or you can just skip all this and just download the chart.

You download it as a CSV. When you open it's going to look like this, oh that's the wrong one, my bad guys. You're going to do the table in the CVS. When you do the table, again you can come over here to average position. Highlight the row and then sort and filter, sort smallest to largest. We're highlighting the average position column and then we're going to sort and filter and sort smallest to largest. Yes, we want to expand the current selection. Now, what we have is, I'm going to maximize this just so you can see it, now, we have the average position like we talked about before. These are all position 2, blah, blah, blah, blah. Just to make this a little bit easier for you watch I'm going to knock these out, I'm going to just delete these rows because we don't need these for what we're doing and we don't need that row for what we're doing. What we've got here is, we've got these keywords.

What I would typically do, is I would typically highlight it and I would grab the ones that are all the way up to maybe, I'll do the front 40 ones. Copy these and then I'm going to bring it over here and projects, add new, project name is going to be typically the client name, so I'll go ahead and put this in, and I pick marketing, the URL or domain. If you're going to use this tool, very important that you click check for sub pages otherwise it's only going to check this, this exact URL. I'm going to paste my keywords into here. There's going to be some duplicates in here so when you're doing this for real go ahead and knock out the 1s that are stupid that don't make sense, but just for brevity I'm just going to go ahead and put these in here.

We're going to use Google and if the results are local you don't want to use a proxy, you do want to use a delay, I usually use 3. If you doing results that are not for you though you definitely want to use a proxy and you can use Yahoo and you can choose Bing and check up to 100 URLs and that's fine. If it's ranking past that we don't care anyway.

I am going to click add as new project and I'm going to close. I'm going to go over here and I'm going to check it and I'm going to click check all, oh wait, I hit the wrong thing, sorry, I meant to check the entire campaign. Check this one and I'm going to click check, okay and that's only going to check for these keywords for this campaign. If you check all, like I did just a second ago, it's going to check all the ones you have listed. The thing that I like about this rank checker it's not as accurate as some of the 1s that you pay for, but it's a one-off and you can put unlimited keywords and unlimited URLs. For 20 bucks it's kind of a no brainer.

Now, my client sites for their main keywords I'm going to keep for sure, I'm going to keep those in a different place, in a proper rank checking tool. I think my proxy's are dead right now, so this didn't come up with anything. Let me look at it real fast, yeah, the proxy's must be, yeah, it must be going in my captcha, that's what it must be going in, because as you saw before I am ranking for a couple of these. What will happen normally guys again, is you're going to see something probably that looks more like this one. You're going to see one that looks more like this that has a whole bunch of them. That's typically what I get for people. Again, that's method number 1.

Method number 1 again to summarize. This method you're going to go into webmaster tools and/or analytics. You're going to download the things that people ... The search queries. You are going to sort them and find the ones that are on the first 2 or 3 pages. Then you are going to put them into a rank tracker. Now, that you have those you should have some keywords that are already on the front page probably, unless it's a brand new client with a brand new site, in which case you're not going to have any, so this technique won't work for you. Technique number 1 is only for clients that have existing sites and existing business. You're going to have the ones that are on page 1 ready for your monthly report and then the ones that are on page 2 and 3, then typically all you need to do to bump those up to page 1 is just a little bit of work.

Find out what page is ranking for some of those long tail keywords and sometimes all you need to do to bump those to page 1 is to add that exact phrase into your content on the ranking page or send a very, very, very small amount of back links like 1, seriously, to the page it's already ranking and/or worse case scenario you can create a page specifically to target that long tail. That's a little bit more old school but if you need to do that in the beginning then that's something you can do also.

Another thing you can do is use an FAQ page where you just put a bunch of them in there. Use a FAQ page and put 10 or 15, or 20 of your long tails and then build just a little bit of links to that page, all right. Then that page will start ranking for a ton of long tails. That is method number 1.

In the next video we are going to go into method number 2 which is going to be locking in the brand. All right, so as usual, thank you for watching/listening and I will see you guys in the forums.
